Cascading Organizational to Departmental Goals

Course Overview

Extensive research demonstrates that when the organization has focused on the alignment of goals, then performance management and the cascading goals of the organization fail to answer the basic limitations. Unclear objectives and misalignment of corporate efforts can hinder organizational as well as individual performance, prompting to lower engagement levels. Organizations’ that impart course and adjust corporate objectives to the goals of the employees set up linkage between the strategy of the organization and individual employees. These phases give direction on the best way to effect engagement levels through viably cascading organization’s objectives so that it is easy to reach up to the goals of an employee on individual basis.

Course Objectives

Following are the objectives of the course:

  • Choose 7-8 key objectives at the board level for the year
  • Make the SMART objectives which are clear to the management and its lower staff
  • Ask staff how their department can accomplish the SMART objectives and help them to characterize SMART focuses for their zone
  • Ensure that the departmental targets are cascaded, so it can be examined how the organization can increase departmental/key objectives
  • Document and manage the performance of the individual against these objectives through the span of the year

Course Content

Goal Development

Step 1: Develop Goal Alignment Work Plan

  • Articulating the goals of the organization
  • Including the top management so that important activities can be done on priority basis and goals of the organization can be achieved

Step 2: Have Leadership Create Division/Department Goals

  • Determine time required for organization’s top administration to characterize division/department objectives
  • Help authority associate organizational objectives to division/department objectives
  • Ensure that authority gives equal priority to every objective

Step 3: Ensure Uniform Understanding of Organization Goals and Alignment Strategy

  • Discussing the goals of the organization or department with other department in open forum, e.g., Goal Alignment Workshop, Decoding Strategic Plan Workshop, etc.
  • Demonstrating how the goals of the department can be aligned with the organization/department/division goals
  • Determining the total time needed by the management in order to define the goals of the department
  • Ensuring that the management has provided targets for each goal

Step4: Identify Misalignment of Cross Organizational Goals

  • Identifying the goals that are not well-defined and have conflicts
  • Using consensus so that conflicts and deficiencies can be addressed
  • Creating action plan for the correction of misalignment

Step 5: Provide Support Tools to Identify and Resolve Goal Misalignment

  • Forming a checklist for the goals of organization’s department/division and illustrating how they can be linked with the goals of the department
  • Identifying the issues that might occur and giving possible solutions
  • Demonstrating how the goals can be reframed and prioritized
  • Identifying how necessary goals can be refined

Step 6: Cascade Goals to Employees

  • Distributing the template of goals alignment to employees so that it can be completed on time
  • Connecting the goals of the employees with the goals of the department
  • Creating a time frame for achieving all the goals

Step 7: Create Transparency of Goals at all Levels

  • Mandating manager communication of organization’s goals to direct reports
  • Enabling the employees to look at the linkage between their own goals, departmental goals and the goals of the organization

Step 8: Manage Goals

  • Allowing the employees to make adjustment in their goals as they change
  • Coaching employees on daily basis so that they can meet different level of their set goals

Course Methodology

The training is going to be highly interactive combination of lectures, group discussions, questionnaires, individual reflections, role plays, simulations and videos.

Managers, assistant managers and supervisors from all the departments.
