Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)

Course Overview

The occurrences of workplace accidents are often due to the ignorance and understanding of hazards and risk. To prevent and minimize ill health and injuries, organizations need to realize workplace hazards are root cause of problems.

This course provides an understanding for hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA) processes. Hazard identification and risk assessment is one of the key planning elements for OHSAS 18001 and forms the basis for design of the management system. The course aims to equip participants with the competence to carry out HIRA effectively.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course you will know how to:

  • Develop a comprehensive approach to hazard identification appropriate for your workplace
  • Assess the hazards in your workplace, and determine which ones should be eliminated or controlled first
  • Identify the types of hazard controls that are commonly used in various situations
  • Implement a hazard control program
  • Assess the effectiveness of the control measures that you have implemented

  • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment Methodologies:
    • Hazard Operability (HAZOP)
    • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
    • Event Tree Analysis (ETA)
    • Job Safety Analysis
  • Documentation of HIRA & Selection of Appropriate Approaches 
  • Designing and implementing a Risk Control Plan
  • Others

Course Methodology

The training is going to be highly interactive combination of lectures, group discussions, questionnaires, individual reflections, role plays, simulations and videos.

Target Audience

This course is intended for QHSE team, personnel including production, operational, maintenance and logistic staff responsible for undertaking hazard identification and risk assessment.

Duration

2 Days (08:30–14:30) with appropriate breaks for tea/refreshments and lunch.
